"OLD RIVALRY".....Turns Into Just "Gettin' OLD!"

The school that hosted our volleyball game last night, Southeast Warren, used to be our "ARCH RIVAL" when I was in school.  In ALL the four years of my high school career, our football team lost ONLY three games total......ALL to Southeast Warren!  Hold on....it gets better!

My senior year our football boys went UNDEFEATED......yes, FINALLY beating S.E.W. in a thriller......only to find out that due to a SCREWED UP point system then in place, that S.E.W. would get to advance on to the State Playoffs instead of us.  You'd of thought there was a death in the family!

Now let me make this perfectly clear......I was NOT built then, like I am now, SO, I was perfectly content with being 1st chair Trumpet in the band instead of 1st string quarterback.  BUT, our class of 67 kids was a VERY TIGHT KNIT group and has went on to achieve great things in life, so we were ALL in this together.  (The fullback our junior year is now the BALTIMORE RAVENs tight end coach.)

I was bored before the volleyball games started so I was wandering around checking out the school when I ran upon this trophy.  My first instinct was to kick the glass out, grab it, and run for home!  Then I realized I wouldn't get out of the school parking lot before I'd run out of wind....AND......the fact that it's been nearly 30 YEARS ago since this happened.

I also found the schools athletic RECORD board, and STILL on it was the quarterback and fullback from "OUR" era.  I was impressed.  They always say that "Best lessons are HARD learned!"........the next year the State High School Athletic Assoc.  changed the point system....MOSTLY because of the "Class of 83" Wayne Falcons!
